Henry Hudson Park Shoreline Stabilization Design Project

Project Information
-
Goal is to develop a design to stabilize the existing shoreline from erosion consistent with the Henry Hudson Park Shoreline Stabilization Study.
-
Collaborate with NYSDEC and other stakeholders to identify the most appropriate stabilization technique that balance ecological health needs, flood resiliency, and recreational use of the waterfront.
-
Greenman-Pedersen, Inc. (GPI) hired to identify the preferred alternatives, prepare engineered plans, and pursue the required environmental and construction permit approvals.
-
Project received $184,000 in grant funding from NEIWPCC and NYSDEC Hudson River Estuary Program.
-
Next steps will use the engineered plans for shoreline stabilization to apply for construction funding (Phase 2) that will ultimately result in the stabilization of the Henry Hudson Park shoreline (Phase 3).
Project Importance
The Henry Hudson Park serves as the Town’s only public access point to the Hudson River and provides the public with a boat launch, picnic areas, playground, accessible fishing platform, kayak launch, gazebo, pavilion, and several fields and courts for active recreation.
The Hudson River shipping channel is used commercially for access to the Port of Albany from points south and large vessel wakes have caused damage to docks and bulkheads. Ice scour is another significant factor contributing to the degradation of the bulkheads. This project will design shoreline stabilization measures that are crucial to maintaining the health of the Hudson River Estuary and sustain the recreational waterfront access opportunities at Henry Hudson Park.
